9. If 'votes' are what put him in the position as leader, then he was elected at least in some sense, no?

Or is it like his party got enough of the vote to decide, then the party made him leader, and people did not know when they voted that he was the one who would be chosen as that party leader? Honest question I've no idea how it all works and always like to know the real facts about everything, not just the happy-sounding spin
