Republicans were saying the same thing about Biden--for different reasons; but still....
Just as we are not able to force the Evil Orange Turnip out, they were unable to force out Joe Biden even though their grievance with him was on par--justified or not--with ours against the President.
Both the 25th Amendment and impeachment are extraordinary measures with incredibly high bars--for good reason.
Republicans do not see what we see--not that I can tell. The things we see as "complete disregard for the Constitution" they see as nuance to be debated. What we see as "clearly failing mentally" they see as brilliance that we just do not understand.
For what it is worth: I don't see him as "clearly failing mentally." Yes, he has his moments--we all do--but I can almost always tell what he is trying to say. I may disagree with it vehemently, but it does make sense. For me to say he was mentally incapacitated would take a lot more. I've dealt with people that were actually mentally incapacitated before.
I feel like your "bad feeling that Democrats want Trump to be POTUS in November because they think its the best chance for huge gains" is really just Democrats in Congress knowing that impeachment comes with huge political risks. And those risks are far too great to not just wait it out until either nature takes its course or something so egregious happens that it is clear that Republicans are finally onboard with impeaching him. We are far from that point at this time unfortunately.
The good news is that the damage he is doing to this country--and now world--is reversible and fixable. Not for those that have lost their lives, but we can fix the damage. We have been through worse as a country and a world--so far.
