Even if Ahmadinejad had not been injured, the odds of his being successfully installed as Iran's president were approximately zero. They could kill the guards that were holding him under house arrest but they couldn't kill the thousands upon thousands of Revolutionary Guard troops who were loyal to the existing regime and the "Supreme Leader".

That doesn't mean it wasn't the plan -- the "strategy" for this war was not even half-baked. But it never had a chance of succeeding.
