(85,407 posts)84. The reason the debate was scheduled so early in the cycle is because his staff thought he wasn't fine.
This was reported at the time. Staff was concerned that Biden wasnt good enough to debate and they wanted to schedule the debate early so there would be enough time for the party to respond if it went badly. The people that wanted the debate early turned out to be right.
