3. May I ask a practical question?

Yesterday

Even if "the world" wanted to avenge somebody's assassination, what could "we" do against Iran that we're not already doing?

Iran is a large nation with modern weapons and we haven't been able to do squat about their closing the Strait of Hormuz, cutting off oil supplies.

Carter wasn't able to do squat when Iran took a bunch of CIA agents, er, diplomats, hostage in 1979 and Iran has grown far more powerful since then.

Also, Iran has powerful allies (see 1979 hostage crisis that was miraculously resolved the day Reagan was inaugurated).

Many Americans persist in viewing Iran as a small desert nation inhabited by stone age people and they are so very wrong. (Not saying you view Iran that way.)
