21. It's really past time for younger leadership in the Senate.

Many young people view Democrats as octogenarians who are out of touch with their issues. I recently spoke with a high school teacher and asked what his students’ biggest concerns are. The answer was that they are frozen, in that they don’t know what to do. He teaches in a middle to lower economic area. Many students cannot afford college, believe that getting a decent job will be difficult, and say they will never be able to own a home like their parents and may not be able to afford rent. They also believe that government is frozen—doing too little (or now nothing) about climate change, doing nothing about the cost of housing, doing nothing about the cost of tuition, doing nothing about low wages and no job benefits for young workers. They see no good future for themselves, and they will be voters in 1-2 years.

Obviously, this is just one teacher and one school, but the frozen comment surprised me because it is real. The US used to accomplish big things, and Biden did some of that, but now our big accomplishments seem to be technology that robs us of our privacy and social media that misinforms, creates anger and hatred, and divides us. The innovations we do have in biomedical and other research are being dismantled. And is it truly worth billions of taxpayer dollars to fund Musk’s dream of colonizing Mars when we could use that money here on Earth to fund better healthcare? Our priorities are screwed up because the 1% do not want to make the US better, they only want to enrich themselves at our expense.
