MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday said that communication between states and the federal government under the second Trump administration is nonexistent, opening the door to catastrophe in the case of a natural disaster or other emergency.
Walz, during an interview with Reformer editor Patrick Coolican at a States Newsroom conference in Minneapolis, said that the Trump administration is unprepared for the next disaster like another global pandemic and that leaves states particularly vulnerable.
The flow of information has been disrupted between the states and the federal government, and we just cant get answers
No one is allowed to talk to us, and thats really problematic, Walz said.
The Minnesota governor said the silence from the feds differs from the first Trump administration. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Walz said then-Vice President Mike Pence would call him every few weeks to check in to see what he needed. He said he sensed Pence would call in under the radar, so he didnt draw anybodys attention.
