only two Republicans I ever did election volunteer work for. I was too young to vote.

Because they were Liberal Republicans, especially in social issues, and the Democrats at those times in thise races were too conservative.
Liberal Republicans became an extinct breed after that.

I never actually voted for a Republican.

Lindsay when he ran for President had a campaign button that said like....

Lindsay for President
NYC Mayor: The second hardest job in America. 😄👍
