In reply to the discussion: 'Not a damned penny!' 'Abandoned' Texas flood survivors prepare to clash with officials [View all]OldBaldy1701E
(8,757 posts)50. With all due respect, I offer a correction to one sentence.
Unless and until we get this damn money requirement out of our elections every aspect of our lives and stop making it the most important thing in the universe, none of this will never be resolved.
That is the issue. The imbalance it creates in our elections is just one aspect of the damage being beholden to a piece of paper over everything else has caused our entire society, as well as the world that decided to emulate us. (I have said it before, the most dangerous export from this country is our culture. Why anyone would want to imitate it is beyond me, other than the 'I got mine, screw you' mentality, which is always appealing to some of the less... human... representatives of our society. I guess advertising works after all, eh?)
Of course, those of us who have some of that paper don't care about this topic. They would lose their 'power' if we actually decided to stop this 'money makes the world go around' crap. So, you end up with people (from all sides, I am afraid) who are not interested in fixing anything.
But, that is just my pitiful opinion.
Also, how is it that the rethugs have such a 'massive, dark money machine'? Are there no billionaires on the Democratic side? They cannot even approach the level of 'dark money' that is ruining our country?
Or, is it something else...?

OP
FEMA funds that could have helped survivors are now used to pay ICE thugs and build Alligator Auschwitz.

Exactly, the typical homeowner's and tenant's insurance does NOT cover flood damage, in addition one can buy an excess

One bigger problem is that there are too many people making too much money from 'insurance'.

Republican governance maybe? Kerr county is a very red district. Chip Roy is their congressman!
