(748 posts)If a person serves honorably then they should be able to retire just like everyone else and not because of their gender identity. This reminds me of the 1970s when gays wanted to serve openly in the military. Eventually, the were accepted and while some personnel didn't like it gays had the same opportunities that others had. I knew people who were openly gay in the 1970s and 80s and they did their jobs just like everyone else did.
Transgender people were accepted by the AF to serve and they signed an enlistment contract committing to serve. As long as they performed their duties and were held to the standards everyone else was held to then there's not reason, other that bigotry, for them to continuing to serve.
I hope those that are being discharges and/or denied retirement sue the AF and the federal government for discrimination and breach of contract.
