In reply to the discussion: US Air Force to deny retirement pay to transgender service members being separated from the service [View all]slightlv
(6,282 posts)9. Today, I'm ashamed to be a USAF vet.
My father's words to me, when I told him I was going to enlist in the military were "Enlist in the Air Force. They take care of their own." (He had been an Army Medic in WWII).
Today, the Air Force is going back on its promise to those who offered their all for this country. Shame on them, and shame on the U.S. for allowing this to happen.
I will never recommend public service of any kind (civilian or military) to anyone until this country is back on the right track and looks like it's going to stay that course. Until then, it's a losing proposition all around... for the individual who asks if it's worth it, and for the country that's no longer deserving of it. IMO... YMMV (but right now, I'm very opinionated about it!)

OP
USAF is totally disgracing themselves. Denying benefits to troops who served honorably.

It's horrible, but the military pretty much has to follow the orders of the SecDef and CinC, as long as...

They qualify for early retirement. They were previously told by the Air Force that they would be able
