In reply to the discussion: Feds Bashed for 'Rounding Up Food Delivery Bikes' in DC: 'Terrible Use of My Tax Dollars' [View all]SpankMe
(3,565 posts)I have cousins who live in NYC who complain about couriers on bikes tearing through the city, sometimes hitting pedestrians, cars and light poles and stuff. They're generally aggressive and their attitude sucks. These fast-paced delivery services are notorious for being entitled assholes. They do break traffic laws and many operate vehicles that are unlicensed, homemade, unsafe and put together with duct tape.
BUT...
This is a low-priority quality of life issue in most densely packed cities. Local police can handle it. It isn't a major crime issue that should involve federal law enforcement. It's a bullshit tactic where Trump can legitimately say they're "enforcing the laws" and using these nuisance "law breakers" to ultimately justify his DC takeover. It's a psy-op.
DC leaders and congressional Dems have to push back - loud - and tell the public that this is a smoke-and-mirror exercise. We can't allow this to be used as justification for the DC takepover.
