2. As a 3rd generation Texan, I am sad about this outcome...

I think about my uncle Tim who served in Texas's state senate. He was giving a speech on the Senate floor when he was informed that his son, my cousin Bill, had parachuted into France and was MIA. Later he did regroup. Family lore has it that he was hidden in farmhouses on his way to Paris (I think that is where his group was to regroup (reconoitre?).

Any WW2 historians here who could fill me in?
