If you want a silver lining to this very dark cloud, almost any other politician would be clever enough, or lack the absolute hubris, to use this concentrated power cautiously at first. If they were careful they would get the thin end of the wedge in place before it was obvious what a disastrous idea this was.
Trump's incredible lack of caution is waking up some of the apathetic and ignorant third of the electorate who previously could not be bothered to vote.
