(21,308 posts)James Wright was a Pulitzer Prize winning American poet, and the festival is held annually. I went by myself the first year I heard about it. There were a number of poets attending who were giving insights about Wright's poetry and voice. It was a totally new experience for me. The festival included lunch for the speakers and attendees. I was one of the last to go through the line. The tables were full, so I was looking for a place to sit. There was a seat left at the table where the poets were sitting and when they saw me looking for a seat, they urged me to take the empty seat. I will never forget how they included me in the conversation, and how I was transported to a realm of possibilities. I felt like I was sitting at the Algonquin Round Table.
I've met other notables, but I think this experience tops the list
