She was adopted out 3 times in 3 months. People would take her home, and then bring her back in a week or so. Told the pound she had bad issues with men (she doesn't). She is very protective of me when a strange man comes close to me, but that's doing her job, as far as I'm concerned.
I figure they got her home and realized what a horse she is. She was only 2-1/2 years old when we adopted her, and she weighed 100 pounds. She was wild as a march hare... no training whatsoever. And all she had to do was wag her tail happily around a door or a wall, and you'd swear someone was playing the drums. We've had her for a year now, and we're still in training mode with her. She's made great strides, and she IS a smart dog... she's just a very *willful* dog. But though we realized not long after getting her home just how much work it was going to be to get her settled in and trained (as best as we could), hubby and I both said she found her pack and this was her home...period. She wasn't going anywhere else. I do feel sorry for her at times. She's got more energy than a houseful of kids, and she's stuck with us two old people who can't keep up with her. But she knows she's loved and she's spoiled rotten, so we try to make up for some of the boredom. Plus, we have 7 cats so she has ready made playmates... a few of the cats even prefer playing her instead of the other cats! Especially my Norwegian cat. He's huge, himself, for a cat!
I was really looking for a Golden when we found Lexy. She's part Lab, part Pittie, and (it looks) part Dalmation. She's a dyed in the wool mutt! And, at 115 pounds, when she crawls up on your lap, you know you've been cuddled! (LOL)
This is the "pup" who saw motorbike pass us on our first walk in the park, and immediately took out after it. Knocking me completely off my feet, dragging me down the hill and breaking my leg. She's much better on the leash now, tho. I've given her lots of practice!
One of my best friends lives around the corner and up the block from me. She also got a puppy who grew into a behemoth. So, I"ll walk up to my friends and let them have playdates together. Lexy loves to play with Tina so much, that on the few times she's slipped out of the fence she heads straight to Tina's house. In fact, the first time she did it, she accidentally rang the Ring and showed up on my friends computer screens. We got a call from my friend asking, "Do you know where Lexy is?" We had no idea she'd somehow slipped out from the fence! But every single time she's done it (not all that often, thank goodness!) she heads straight for my friend's house. Sits on the porch in front of their door and waits for Sarah to open it up to her. So... she may be surrounded by us elders, but she still finds ways to make a bunch of mischief! (LOL)
Those other three families just didn't want to spend the time and effort on her. Yes, she's a horse and she's a lot of work. But OMG, her heart is so big and she is so loving to everybody... including the cats. How can one not love a dog like that?! So adopted and surrendered 3x in 3 months... until she finally found "her pack" -- two old people, 7 cats, another aging couple and a pup about her age. I think she has a pretty good life... especially when Mama's cooking supper and she gets to taste test it! Big Mooch!!!
