1972's Ben was an improvement on 1971's Willard.

1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers was better than the 1956 original. Yes, the original is a classic, but the 1978 version is terrific.

1967's Quatermass and the Pit is a sequel to 1955's The Quatermass Xperiment and 1957's Quatermass 2. All three are low budget BBC sci/fi offerings, based on BBC TV serials. Quatermass and the Pit (released in America as Five Million Miles to Earth) is a pretty smart and tense movie, if you can get past the horrifically bad special effects. Sublime ending.

Star Wars: Rogue One is the second best of all the Star Wars movies, behind only The Empire Strikes Back.

There's an argument that The Godfather: Part II is as good as the original. The 1971 movie was a study in dichotomy, as we watch ruthless killers as devoted family men. The 1974 sequel takes this to another level as we directly compare the rise of Vito Corleone with Michael Corleone's struggle to retain power.
