(789 posts)Starring Malcolm McDowell, Mary Steenburgen, and David Warner.
McDowell play H. G. Wells who hosts a dinner for his friends at the end of 1893. A late guest arrives, Warner playing Dr. John Leslie Stevenson, and Wells shows his guest his invention of the Time Machine and how it works. The police come to Well's house stating Jack the Ripper has killed again and is in the area and they want to search his house. The police find Dr. Stevenson's medical bag with evidence that he's the Ripper. After the police leave, Wells discovers in Time Machine is gone and he realizes Dr. Stevenson used it to escape. The machine returned to it's original location in Well's house and he uses it to travel to where Stevenson ended up, in 1979 San Francisco to terrorize the city. Wells uses his machine to travel to 1979 San Francisco to capture Stevenson and return him to 1893 London. While in San Francisco, he meets Steenburgen and falls in love with her complicating his mission.
This is one of my favorite movies because it blends scifi, drama, comedy, and a love story into one movie.
