We went from 4 bedrooms a family and living room and big deck to 3 br, a family room and screened in porch. We had to seriously downsize. We gave away a ton of leaf bags of clothes to a church that provides housing for the homeless, sold over 300 puzzles. We had several yard sales. Several of my antiques weren't in great shape so we got rid of them and we replaced our 12 year old giant sectional couch which had been destroyed by our dog licking the fabric so much (grrr). I also donated/sold a lot of books since my bookcases were overflowing. So happy to have the cases with no books stacked on top of each other now!
I think we did really well! What we kept (plus the new couch & recliners we had to get) fits great in the new house, no crowding now and we have great places for some beautiful antique sideboards we got at an estate sale. We have a great view of the river from the top of our hill and enjoy it every day. It was totally worthwhile, though it was such a huge task. I never want to do this again, that's for sure!!!
