Historic Oakland creamery offers Alysa Liu ice cream for life

Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu's return to Oakland will now be much, much sweeter.

Historic ice cream parlor Fentons Creamery announced Thursday on social media that the store is offering the 20-year-old figure skater "ice cream for life" in the wake of her Winter Games triumph. Liu became the first American woman to win an individual figure skating gold medal in 24 years with a captivating free skate performance to Donna Summer's "MacArthur Park."

"Ice cream for life?" the post reads, with gold-themed emojis sprinkled throughout. "Seriously. We mean it. ... When you're ready to celebrate, we would love to host your homecoming party at Fentons Creamery. The sundaes are on standby. Oakland shows up for its own."
