Petition for recalling Greeley Democrat is approved; signature collection to begin [View all]
The Colorado Secretary of States Office has approved a recall petition for state Rep. Rochelle Galindo, allowing her critics to begin collecting signatures as they try to remove her from office.
The state agency approved a petition by Mary Achziger and Karen Kornins on Thursday. Galindos political opponents will now have until June 3 to collect 5,696 signatures in House District 50. That number is 25 percent of the total votes cast in Galindos 2018 election.
If they are able to reach that number, Galindos name will be placed on a ballot. Its not clear yet when the recall election would occur, though the fall of 2019 is one possibility.
The voters of House District 50 are not going to be intimidated by millionaires and special interests cutting six-figure checks to political operatives engaging in the divisive Washington-style politics Coloradans consistently reject, Galindo said in a statement Thursday.
