Democratic wave surprises Monroe County as key town supervisor seats flip from red to blue [View all]

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — A historic election night in Monroe County saw a significant political shift as Democrats swept several town and local races, marking a turning point both locally and nationally.

There were some tightly contested races in this election, including the supervisor race in Pittsford, where Republican Bill Smith claimed victory. But several other town supervisor seats flipped from red to blue in a pivotal election.

Monroe County Democratic Committee Chairman Stephen DeVay expressed surprise at the outcome.

"I don't think that anybody was going to bet on it last night that it would have been this many seats kind of flipped, and this many people really stepping up and saying, ‘Yeah, we're going to do this now,'" DeVay said.
