Small town government is rife with crazy libertarians and MAGAnistas who oppose everything just because Freedom Goddamnit! It's their right to surround the house with flammable brush, use kindling for building materials, etc. Of course, when a fire gets going, they are the first to demand that the gummit save them. Same thing with building in the flood plain.
