Press takes note of Washington State Republican Party's poor fundraising and bad election prospects [View all]
The Washington State Republican Party is limping into the 2024 general election homestretch with very little resources and increasingly grim prospects for its entire statewide ticket, as evidence mounts that the party is failing to put any of the marquee contests on this years ballot into play. The press is taking notice, as exemplified by an article that Seattle Times reporter Jim Brunner filed today about the partys finances, which was put on the wire and promptly got picked up by dozens of other news outlets:
With less than a month before ballots are mailed for the general election, the state Republican Party just cant compete financially with the Democrats.
The state GOP had just $76,000 in its state accounts at the end of August less than 2% of the $4.3 million stashed by the state Democratic Party, according to the latest filings to the Public Disclosure Commission.
The deficit further steepens the Republican Partys already uphill climb to win contests for key legislative races and statewide offices, including ending a four-decade losing streak in gubernatorial races.
