My family's roots are in this area of WV ("Ronceverte" btw means "Greenbrier" as in the hoity-toity resort/golf club) and a favorite family story is about an ancestor. This man, a farmer, rarely took his family to town and even more rarely treated them to a restaurant meal. After they'd eaten, the waitress handed him the bill, and he gave her the money. She told him to pay at the cash register up front. He replied "I'm Newman Anderson from Ronceverte, and I pay the one I get it from."
