9. Fortunately, laptops don't have their power jacks soldered to the circuit board anymore

If you take off the bottom, you'll see the power jack is now on the end of a small cable that plugs into the motherboard. There is a small green label wrapped around that cable with a part number (P/N) printed on it. An example from one I did recently was 83702-2502. Look up that part number on Amazon and you'll find a replacement for about $10 or less. You can find videos showing how to remove/replace on your model on YouTube. It takes only a few minutes.
