1. Yeah, I've had to let a few people know how to do this.

I had an email address that I was particularly fond of, so I used to keep the first part (before the "@&quot when I changed providers.

But I soon realized this was a problem for people trying to send me email since most people have no idea how to delete obsolete previous recipients. And Apple doesn't make it too easy.

So people would be trying to send a message to (for example) "pinback@aol.com" when my current address was "pinback@yahoo.com." (Full disclosure -- neither of these resemble my real or former email address in the slightest; this is just for illustration purposes.)

With one friend I finally had to send multiple emails with the subject line "PINBACK'S EMAIL ADDRESS IS PINBACK@XYZ.COM." This finally worked, at least for that sender. Fortunately I've been able to keep the same email address for a few years -- and keep it spam free -- but this headache will no doubt return eventually.

I also use a great many disposable forwarding addresses, so my real personal email address doesn't get released into the wild very often.
