I'm sorry that happened to you. 
I admire you for having the guts to do that where you live. 
We also live in a very red area (NW FL), and we're Yankees from Philly (they hear my accent, saying caw-fee 
and I get the "look"
, so we're too afraid to put anything like that on our car or on our lawn. Doing so around here would guarantee something nasty happening. Doesn't matter that hubbie is a Nam vet, either.
Our world is changing. And not for the better, I'm afraid. People's values and priorities are not at the level they used to be....
