Most of the carping going on in the general discussion forum is out of a force of habit, I think.
A lot of those old time members spent so many years complaining about President Bush that they didn't really know how to react to a Democrat occupying the White House.
Especially for 2 terms.
We all know that President Obama can't control what the Republicans do in Congress any more than Bill Clinton did when he was the president.
So, a lot of what some of those people are complaining about is simply wasted energy.
I think the vast majority of them still want to give their political input on the issues of the day, though.
Yet, some of them haven't really thought through the issue long enough to realize that what we have now is a country that is thoroughly divided between the 2 major parties.
So much so, that it is breaking the Republican party in to smaller factions.
The Democratic party went through this same sort of thing in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
However, the Republicans have taken extreme measures to thwart progress.
Things they never did before.
Nevertheless, they forget . . . the wheels of justice grind slowly.
So, the Republicans are losing a battle with the future, a future that some of them refuse to move in to.
In the evenings, I look up at the stars as they first come out right after the sun goes down, and I wonder what people like Nelson Mandela and other world leaders of recent history think of us these days.
And I ask myself, are we doing enough?, are we really making inroads?, are we being consistent?, are we being fair to all?
As long as we have hope and continue to push against those who are stonewalling against progress, we are winning.
Our causes are just, they are moral, they are ethical.
And so, we will approach building that city on the hill that has been spoken of so eloquently in the past so many times for so many centuries, whether the current Republicans in Congress like it or not.
