Caterpillar common in Tennessee dubbed 'Trumpillar' by pest control company

by Adrian Mojica Wednesday, September 30th 2020

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--A caterpillar common in Tennessee during the fall has been dubbed the "Trumpillar" due to the caterpillar's resemblance to President Donald Trump's iconic hairstyle.

U.S. Pest Protection shared a photo of the caterpillar taken in Tennessee. According to the company, the caterpillar is Megalopyge Opercularis. In its larva form, the caterpillar shows off its yellow-orange hair. The caterpillar will later become a flannel moth according to the company.

According to U.S. Pest Protection, during this larva stage, the hairs can be painful to humans who make contact with the caterpillar causing "intense throbbing."

The company states the Southern Flannel Moth is common in Tennessee in the fall.
