Equipment delays and derailed freight train cause CZ to be 17 hours late

September 19’s eastbound California Zephyr couldn’t leave Emeryville until the westbound CZ that had departed Chicago on September 19 had arrived. The westbound cars needed to be cleaned and prepared for the eastbound trip.

So right away the eastbound trip was hours- late leaving. Then it got stuck in Nevada due to a derailed freight train ahead of it.

Right now it’s out of Galesburg, Illinois.
