7. Dogs tend to do what they were bred to do

My own dog is not a pure bred Border Collie; but she sure likes to try to herd people and other dogs, she even wants to herd cats. She actually shows a great many traits that her predominant breed were bred to have. That being said, some dog breeds/landraces were bred to harm other dogs. Traits bred into dogs' ancestors can show up generations after they were actually used. In the desire to try to do right by all dogs and get them homes when they are at the shelter, a lot of people will just not permit any discussion of negative traits bred into pit bull type dogs (since they are the predominant dogs in shelters these days percentage-wise). It just isn't permitted among most dog loving people. I usually just keep my mouth shut so I don't lose all my friends involved in dog sports, but I've read too much and it bothers me that negatives can be discussed for any other type of dog but one. And those negatives can cause more harm than someone's mouthy Labrador chewing a rug.

Reading about the loss of this precious puppy just put me over the edge into forbidden territory. I am sorry if I've offended anyone. What dogs kill puppies? They are social animals!
