Mental illness is about cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dysfunction that interferes with life activities and/or causes personal distress.

A speaker isn't mentally ill because they rant right-wing politics and it distresses you as a listener.

During campaign seasons DU is chockful of folks who think there is nothing wrong with political chauvinism using terms for the mentally ill that are offensive and stigmatizing to many of us who have mental illness. This group is supposed to be a safe haven from that.
