Repotted an aloe plant using regular potting soil. [View all]

I only had regular potting soil available to repot the plant and I'm wondering if I should repot using cactus soil.

Also, the plant had sixteen inch leaves at the bottom, that I clipped off. Not sure that was the right thing to do.
