I am deleting my originally-stated scenario about how the accident occurred. I now realize that the correct version of the incident is that two military personnel were involved. One was in the aircraft and one was on the tow tractor. They both jumped clear before the aircraft and the tow tractor slid off of the deck of the aircraft carrier and into the water. My thank goes to the DUer who pointed out my mistake.
