10. Don't start sending query letters to agents until you have read this

Finishing a book is a great achievement, and you probably feel that rush of accomplishment and pride that comes along with that. But don't start sending query letters to agents (they are easy to find) until you can answer some of their questions. Their questions will have NOTHING to do with the quality of your work, but will have EVERYTHING to do with how you are going to get people to buy it. In short, you need to research your market.

This blog has some great tips: http://publishedtodeath.blogspot.com/
Read "Are you ready to contact an agent?" http://publishedtodeath.blogspot.com/2013/05/are-you-ready-to-contact-agent-take.html
And "Writers are from Venus Agents are from Mars: http://publishedtodeath.blogspot.com/2012/12/writers-are-from-venus-agents-are-from.html
