I agree....but with the caveat that, viewed objectively (and that is an important aspect), sports is a window of sorts--or perhaps a prism (reflection??) that reveals dominant sociocultural realities at any given point in time.

Think NASCAR, "Let's Go Brandon" ~ "Fuck Joe Biden"---sports influences and shapes our culture, and that includes our political culture.

I agree with your point--to a point. But when I think more deeply about it relative to cultural phenomenon, it falls apart. But I've been accused of seeing things where nothing exists. So don't be mad.
