Then, if a student referred to it as the coccyx, he or she would have been scolded for using a word that had "cock" in it. The proper term is "those useless little bones at the lower end of the spine." Same reason religious school students continue to use the word "peepee" and "little button." All those proper names for one's "private parts" are dirty, dirty, dirty, and will get your knuckles cracked by Sister Mary Elizabeth's ruler.
