is that most of them are actually quite conversant with the bible, but believe in neither its sanctity nor its inerrency. Jefferson revising the bible in order to concentrate on the teachings is typical of his brilliance because there are a number of generally good things that the Christos said. However, to those how see the Bible as a holy relic, this attempt to carve away the mythology of the Bible is the worst form of heresy, primarily because it is that mythology, not the message, that drives all too many zealots.
