I honestly would have preferred to have spent the holidays alone. [View all]

I'm not antisocial. I crave solitude and quiet and sanity.

I spent Xmas Eve with an old friend who is also single. She invited me to sleep over. Mistake. Not my bed. Radiators at full tilt and temp at least 84 degrees. I couldn't breathe or sleep. Bored in bed.

Xmas Day (yesterday). I joined my sister and her husband to visit our father. Nothing to say to him from past history and the fact he's 90 and he repeats himself. A lot.

Dad was making dinner. He announced he had a prime rib roast in the oven. And he did. Trouble was he never turned on the oven.

I fantasized about going home, the quiet of my flat, reading a book with a warm beverage.

I was much happier when I was finally alone.
