Demonstrators stage ‘die-in’ at weapons fair in protest against arms dealing [View all]

The Defence Security Equipment International (DSEI) show runs every other year at London’s ExCel and aims to provide international arms manufacturers and buyers the opportunity to network, peruse the latest equipment and ‘generate new business opportunities.’

The protest against the arms fair – which opens on Tuesday for four days – has been organised by the Occupy movement in conjunction with a number of other organisations including the Stop the War Coalition.

‘It is deep hypocrisy to condemn the actions of Assad in Syria, while inviting his arms suppliers and other brutal dictators to shop for weapons in London,’ said Sarah Waldron, from Campaign Against the Arms Trade.

‘We’re taking action in solidarity with people across the world who suffer as a result of the deals that will be done here on our doorstep and challenging our government’s militarism and complicity in human rights abuse and bloodshed.
