Until then, though, there's stuff we can do to limit handgun access: Safe storage, background checks, registration (which has been the case in NY for the last century... nope, they've not been all rounded up yet 
), establishing requirements getting rid of the all-too-common pot-metal semi-autos like the Hi-Points, Jennings and Phoenix Arms of the world (like the ATF's import restrictions), etc.
Oh, and big-ass magazine limits. Sure, reloading can be fast if you train a lot, but its one more place for someone to screw up (Aka Tucson).
This is all crap we can shame at least some of the NRA-sponsored twits and their ilk into doing. Remember, Kirsten Gillibrand used to be one, and Gabby Giffords asked the SCOTUS to overturn the handgun ban in D.C. v. Heller...
