However, in the past year my left knee has started acting up and after an MRI the doctor said I have a small amount of arthritis under the kneecap. I just read an explanation that anything applied to the skin is not going to be quite effective as something taken internally; i.e., tincture or edibles.

I'd be curious to know your experience with the oil. I'm going to give it a try, but like you I'll buy it at a natural health products store.
