At Monday's April 21 close:
    S&P 500 is down 16.0% from its Feb 19 all time high
    Dow is down 15.2% from its Dec 4 all time high

Neither has reached a "bear market" which is 20% down. (Yet. I fully expect it to in the coming days or a couple weeks. We're 3/4 of the way down to that point already).

I keep track of the S&P 500 on a daily basis, including percentage change from the previous market close, from the election day close, from the inauguration eve close, from year end, and from the all-time-high. Also for the Dow, but I don't calculate all the percentage changes for the Dow like I do for the S&P 500. Updated daily in the Economy Group at https://www.democraticunderground.com/111699775

Market Correction: What Does It Mean?, Schwab, 3/14/25
https://www.schwab.com/learn/story/market-correction-what-does-it-mean
S&P 500 corrections occur when the S&P 500 index closes down 10% or more below a recent high. Bear markets are when the S&P 500 index closes down 20% or more below a recent high

================================================================

Corrections occur about every 2 years, on average. Bear markets occur about every 7 years, on average.

The famous 1929 crash was a peak-to-trough 89% drop to its low point in July 1932.
