4. I could certainly support that, his main interest has always been politics, but with humor

From The Daily Show, to his previous own show to now on The Late Show. I remember one time when he spoke about taping his monologue when there was breaking news - think it was the initial meeting between TFG and Kim Jong Un - so he scrapped his written monologue and ad libbed the rest.

And I have seen Al Franken perform in person. He said that at first he tried eliminating the jokes, but it got so that if his committee was waiting, Dianne Feinstein would ask him to tell a joke. Though he said that this often caused arguments since not everybody "got it."
