The real Aryan Brotherhood tattoo is different than the stylized ways that the gang members get away with it. There are reasons they do this, which I will lightly explain.You simply have never worked around STG members like I have.
In prison and large county detention facilities, the gang members always want to be recognized by fellow members, but not recognized by staff. This is because correctional and patrol officers will start a file on your STG activity. Certain things will trigger a points system. When an inmate reaches a certain point level, they ar then "confirmed" as a STG member, (usually Folk or People nation for Bloods and Crips), but the same applies to hispanic STG members, with MS13 being some of the worst.
Tattoos are one of the most common ways that STG members are identified, but then prison writing and letters are often confiscated which further confirm this. Constant affiliation with other known gang members of the same set will trigger more investigations. And then....When another gang member gets jammed up on his/her own charge, they rat the others out in exchange for a plea. This usually includes hand gang signs to be recognized, tattoos, tips on hidden cell phones and letters and minutes of gang meetings.
