Singing praises for DU and DUers of Bloomington!!! [View all]

In the past 48 hours I have experienced one ugly demon nightmare from hell that was cured by the wonderful community at DU.

I am traveling cross country, relocating, and am loaded up with a good sized rental truck with my car on a trailer. Saturday night, as I was trying to find a fuel stop I managed to lose my wallet at a place where I wasn't able to get diesel. I used the restroom and I guess I was so tired I left my wallet on the back of the commode. The great good fortune was that I was the last one to use the rest room before closing and it was found by an employee. Through a series of events, after discovering the loss at the pumps 30 miles down the road, I ended up another 40 miles further away, a long story. All I can say is, Penske is the best rental service, period.

When morning came I had made contact with a friend who secured a room for me so I could get some rest. While I was sleeping the phone rang and it was the manager of the gas station informing me that he had my wallet!

Great! except it's 70 miles back and the rig only goes 67mph and the roads are rough in Illinois with lots of construction, would have been a hard drive up and back. So I remembered that DU always comes to the rescue so I set up my laptop and made a plea to the folks on the Illinois page and in a very short time I had 2 DUers with male family members show up to help me unload my car so I could drive it to get my wallet!! And one came back upon my return to help reload!!

How awesome is that? If not for DU, I'd be in a world of hurt.

So I am extending a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the DUers who helped me contact those helpers and especially those who came out to help!

Now I'm going to get offline and clear out of here and get rolling again, before I'm late.
