Why can’t voters go to the polls, or mail their ballots and cast their votes for their preferred candidates.

Why can’t voters do their homework to study where their candidates stand on issues that are important to them. Or to compromise on other issues. I think that party endorsements are making disservice to voters.
Voters can do these things whether there's an endorsement or not.

People and organizations choose to endorse because it gives their members a chance to weigh in on where their political resources -- money, data, campaign materials and in some cases campaign coordination -- will go. "No endorsement" is an option people can bring up as well.
