forward to your pics. I miss California very much, so they will make you happy. One thing I will point out is that CA is huge, as are Nevada and Arizona. You will be doing a LOT of driving! LA to SF is about 600 miles, as is SF to Las Vegas. And it will be winter, which can mean some truly scary road conditions. Always fun! Of course, you could be there during great weather, which is lovely. You will see some truly incredible scenery!
