Ageism irks me but I'm not opposed to ...

an age optimal age range LAW (say 25 to 65) with a law that spells out explicitly cognitive and health fitness qualifications with regular assessments and enforcement to back them up in the LAW.

In addition to initial qualifying assessments, to be effective, the LAW should include pre - and post tests at specific time based intervals and as needed for cause assessments. Other ages might be considered with the contingency that the cognitive, neuropsychological, and physical fitness standards are within acceptable limits.

As with any other enterprise and especially when we are talking about the leadership of our government, if we hire decrepit, mentally unfit psychopaths then we get what we deserve.

I'd also prefer that we get the cash/crypto out of politics, too. But without the leadership, we need to make any of this work. I guess we can all wish in one hand, and you know what in the other and see which hand fills up first.

NC (my home) is familiar with posers and turncoats, by the way. Tricia Cotham* comes to mind.

Characteristics of Psychopaths

1. Aggressive, callous, and cunning
2. Complete absence of conscience and empathy
3. Very adept at manipulating others
4. Willingness to engage in immoral, criminal conduct
5. Willingness to take what they want and do as they please, regardless of who is hurt or wronged
6. Deceptive ability to appear outwardly benevolent
7. Deceptive ability to behave in superficially charming ways to hide purely selfish motives
8. Willingness to use intimidation and violence to control others in order to satisfy their own needs
9. Willingness to intentionally violate the basic inherent human rights of others
10. Complete absence of any sense of guilt or remorse for the harm their actions have caused to others
11. Rationalization of their own immoral behavior
12. Will attempt to lay blame upon someone else for their own conduct
13. Denial, will deny their own wrongdoing outright
14. Utter contemptuousness toward the feelings and desires of their fellow beings
15. Pathological lying, will say anything without any concern for truth to advance their own hidden agendas
16. Ablity to feign [fake] normal human emotions and empathy
17. Distorted sense of the consequences of their actions
18. Total failure to accept any responsibility for their own socially irresponsible ways
19. Strong bellef that they will never be brought to justice for their criminal behavior

[Rumored girlfriend of North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore(R)]

"Cotham represented the 100th district in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017 as a Democrat. She was elected as a Democrat in 2022 to represent District 112. Cotham formally changed her affiliation to the Republican Party on April 5, 2023, granting the North Carolina House Republicans a supermajority. Prior to her party switch, Cotham had campaigned on a traditional Democratic Party platform and had voted for abortion rights legislation. Shortly after her party switch, Cotham cast the deciding vote for legislation to restrict abortion access in North Carolina.

🔥"I read the Trump-backed "Save America Act" so you don't have to." Jennifer Cohn Here is my 8-point summary.

By Jennifer Cohn, 3/13/26

I read the Trump-backed so-called “Save America Act” (SB 1383) because most of the media and most of our lawmakers apparently have not. It’s obvious that they haven’t read it because if they had, they would sound the alarm about Point 1, below.

The Save America Act:

1. States that all states “shall” submit their voter registration lists to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS)“SAVE” voter purge program, which reportedly has error rates as high as 14% & relies on data from the Social Security Administration (SSA) whose databases were mishandled by DOGE per:

The SSA itself (in a recent court filing titled “Notice of Corrections to the Court Record”),
A whistleblower report by the SSA’s former Chief Data Officer, and
A new whistleblower report, which alleges that a former DOGE member claimed to have retained his SSA computer & credentials providing “God level” access to SSA systems.
(The Act mentions giving flagged voters “notice” and an “opportunity” to prove citizenship without specifying the form or length of time for the notice and while simultaneously making it very difficult to prove citizenship if flagged or purged. See also FN 1.)

In addition, the Act:
2. Imposes no penalty for erroneous purges, but subjects officials to citizen suits & potential prison time for registering a single voter without correct documentation — even if the voter is a citizen. (Note: The GOP has wrongly purged thousands of voters in past elections.

The problem is...

the willingness to build bridges, not quagmires. To fail to see everyone with humanitarian respect. To value those who have generational respect for land and the compulsion to provide for humanity at large by being stewards of the planet and feeding their families.

It's remarkable, to me, how so many who have no first-hand knowledge of a subject are eager to speak on it.

I'll be impressed if an old wooden mule plow, a pile of wooden tobacco sticks, or stacks of wooden potato baskets live in one's memory or even better in their own barn.

Agriculture is constantly changing, and farmers today are some of the most compassionate forward-thinking and innovative business people on the planet.

It's past time to stop beating them down and start lifting them up. Otherwise, be prepared to grow your own food and get healthier as you eat it.

Decisions start with each person's pocketbook guided by their brains and hopefully their hearts.

Individual people are the growers of their own output. Some grow flowers. Others unfortunately decide to grow weeds.

FACT: 95% of farms in the USA are family farms

Lots of supportive evidence for this assertion.

Sex and World Peace: How the Treatment of Women Affects Development and Security
Runtime 1:53:16

“What we have discovered is that the very best predictor of how insecure and unstable a nation is not its level of democracy, it’s not its level of wealth, it’s not what ‘Huntington civilization’ it belongs to, but is in fact best predicted by the level of violence against women in the society,” said Valerie Hudson, co-author of Sex and World Peace, at an April 26 book launch at the Wilson Center.

The Paradox of Missing Women

The basis of the book – applying a gender lens to international security – followed from early feedback from her colleagues at Brigham Young University, who suggested that if her goal was to understand the reasons for “blood spilt and lives lost,” she would do better to look at ideological conflict rather than women’s security.

In response, she made a simple comparison of deaths from conflict and the number of “missing women” in the world. Looking at “as many [conflicts] as I possibly could,” Hudson said she totaled 152 million deaths in 20th century fighting. By comparison, the United Nations Population Fund reported that at the turn of the century – just “one generation, if you will, of the century” – 163 million women went missing from Asia alone.

The missing women phenomenon is “a significant paradox” in global development, said Klugman. “On the one hand there have been enormous advances in terms of life expectancy, but at the same time, relative to boys and men, there’s still enormous excess mortality.”

Trump's critics are falling into an "obvious trap."

Some think that Trump’s critics are getting it wrong when it comes to Venezuela. Michelle Martin of Amanpour and Company leads the discussion with
David Frum.

January 8, 2026 | Clip | 18:08
As President Trump ruminates on a long-term role for the U.S. in Venezuela, The Atlantic's David Frum argues that Trump's critics are falling into an "obvious trap." In a new essay, Frum warns that opponents of the administration are bogged down in the legalities of the military operation. He joins Michele Martin to explain why he believes their message is failing to break through.

About littlemissmartypants

And can it be that in a world so full and busy, the loss of one creature makes a void so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of eternity can fill it up!" ~Charles Dickens ****************************************************** The Delta Smelt, Hypomesus transpacificus ****************************************************** (Hypomesus transpacificus) is an endangered[1] slender-bodied smelt, about 5 to 7 cm (2.0 to 2.8 in) long, in the family Osmeridae. Endemic to the upper Sacramento-San Joaquin Estuary of California, it mainly inhabits the freshwater-saltwater mixing zone of the estuary, except during its spawning season, when it migrates upstream to fresh water following winter "first flush" flow events (around March to May).[4] It functions as an indicator species for the overall health of the Delta's ecosystem.[5] Delta Smelt are usually found at temperatures of less than 25 °C and prefer temperatures of around 20 °C. They are euryhaline but occur mostly at salinities of 0–7 practical salinity units.[6] ************************************************* Because of its one-year lifecycle and relatively low fecundity, it is very susceptible to changes in the environmental conditions of its native habitat.[7] It is listed as a federally threatened species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.[2][3][8] Efforts to protect the fish from further decline and extinction have focused on limiting or modifying the large-scale pumping activities of state and federal water projects at the southern end of the estuary, thereby limiting water available to farming. However, these efforts have not prevented the species from becoming functionally extinct in the wild.[9] ************************************************* Delta smelt is easily confused with longfin smelt (Spirinchus thaleichthys). They are both small, pelagic fish species native to the estuarine and coastal waters of the Pacific coast, but they exhibit distinct ecological, morphological, and behavioral characteristics. The delta smelt, a key indicator species, is endemic to the San Francisco Bay-Delta and has a slender body averaging 5–7 cm in length, with a translucent appearance and a faint, blue lateral line. It primarily inhabits low-salinity waters and is critically endangered due to habitat loss and water management practices. In contrast, the longfin smelt is slightly larger, typically reaching up to 15 cm, and is distinguished by its long pectoral fins that extend beyond the base of the pelvic fins. **************************************************** Snip...more... Genetic studies of delta smelt populations in recent years have revealed potential signs of adaptation to environmental changes, such as increased tolerance to warmer water temperatures. These changes are thought to be driven by the increasingly challenging conditions in the San Francisco Estuary, where rapid alterations in water temperature, salinity, and habitat availability have exerted selective pressures on the species. Evidence of genetic differentiation between wild and hatchery populations has also been observed, raising concerns about the long-term viability of hatchery supplementation programs designed to conserve the species.[14] *************************************************** https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_smelt
